After more than a decade in the big city, Rona returns to the remote Orkney Islands to confront her past and her inner demons. Based on an award-winning bestseller

The film is based on Amy Liptrot’s bestseller “The Outrun”, which won the prestigious Wainright Prize in 2016 and the PEN Ackerley Prize in 2017. The book has sold over 110,000 copies in the UK alone and has been translated into 15 languages. In Germany, it has been published under the title “Nachtlichter”.

A film with a star cast and award-winning director

The leading role is played by the multi-award-winning actress Saoirse Ronan. At her side are Stephen Dillane and Paapa Essiedu. The film was directed by German filmmaker Nora Fingscheidt, known for her acclaimed film “Systemsprenger”.
