After more than a decade in the big city, Rona returns to the remote Orkney Islands to confront her past and her inner demons. Marked by the memories of a difficult childhood and the last, addiction-filled phase of her life, she rediscovers the unique landscape of her homeland. This encounter with raw nature becomes an opportunity for Rona to take control of her life again.
Based on an award-winning bestseller
The film is based on Amy Liptrot’s bestseller “The Outrun”, which won the prestigious Wainright Prize in 2016 and the PEN Ackerley Prize in 2017. The book has sold over 110,000 copies in the UK alone and has been translated into 15 languages. In Germany, it has been published under the title “Nachtlichter”.
A film with a star cast and award-winning director
The leading role is played by the multi-award-winning actress Saoirse Ronan. At her side are Stephen Dillane and Paapa Essiedu. The film was directed by German filmmaker Nora Fingscheidt, known for her acclaimed film “Systemsprenger”.
