Talented but broke? Why your positioning shouldn’t show you – it has to work.

Many female entrepreneurs want to be visible without focusing. Why real impact is not created by “more of you”, but by clarity, depth and an offer that not only sounds good – but hits the mark.

When everything is there – except sales

I’ve seen them, a hundred times over. Women with incredible depth, with a wealth of knowledge, with ideas that go beyond any concept. Multi-talented. Passionate. And: broke. Or on the verge of it.

Not because they are lazy. But because they stand in their own way. Because they believe that visibility alone brings bookings. Because they think their versatility is a selling point. And because they are afraid of committing themselves – and losing everything as a result.

But the opposite is true.

The fallacy of “I’ll just show who I am”

One of my clients, Jana, was a coach, yoga teacher, copywriter and spiritual mentor all rolled into one. She had training for everything, something for everyone. Her website was a beautiful vendor’s tray of colors, tools and “I’m just me” attitude.

“I don’t want to reduce myself,” she said in the initial interview. “I am multidimensional.” Yes, she was. But her customers were confused. What is her thing now? What can she help me with specifically? Where do I start?

Their versatility was their capital – and at the same time their biggest sales blocker. Because nobody books a vague attitude to life. People book solutions. Clear results. Orientation.

They book something or someone they can identify with.

Positioning is not a prison

Many of my customers confuse positioning with restriction. They think that if I make a decision, I am excluding something. But positioning is not a one-way street. It is a beacon.

It’s not about making yourself smaller. It’s about focusing your impact. Your versatility remains. But it needs a focus. A clear message. A main meaning around which everything else revolves.

Jana developed her signature offer, streamlined her messaging, chose a specific problem. And what happened? Bookings finally started coming in. Not because she was less – but because she was manageable.

Another example: Gisela, a trained therapist and former HR manager, had set up her own coaching service for women in transitional situations. Her content was brilliant – but her positioning was so soft that no one felt directly addressed.

During our collaboration, she decided to become bolder: She clearly formulated who her offer was for – and, above all, who it was not for. She combined her therapeutic depth with entrepreneurial clarity. The result: her bookings tripled within four months, and for the first time she felt that her business was also supporting her life.

Why your business is not you – but works for you

A mistake that many make is that they confuse business with identity. They think that their offer must be a 1:1 representation of themselves. But a business is not a biography. It is an instrument. A channel. A vessel for transformation.

If you want your business to support you, then you can give it a structure. A clear language. A concrete goal. Only then can it work for you – instead of constantly tiring you out.

A clearly positioned business acts like an amplifier. It bundles your essence, but it is not your entire being. You remain much more than that. But your business can be clear and tangible – for others and for you.

Effect needs clarity

You can be ten things at the same time. But you should show one thing very clearly. Because clarity works. Clarity attracts. Clarity sells. It’s not about hiding yourself. It’s about becoming visible to those who really need you.

And that requires a decision.

Ask yourself:

  • What is the specific problem I am solving?
  • Who is my offer really made for?
  • What should people be able to say after working with me?

These three questions are often enough to see clearly again.

An invitation to focus

If you can do a lot, know a lot and are passionate about a lot, that’s not a flaw. It’s your superpower. But it needs a clear direction. A goal. An expression that can be sold.

Maybe now is the time to stop showing yourself off – and work instead. No longer for applause. But for change. For bookings. For real results.

Because positioning is not a renunciation. It is a promise. To your customers. And to yourself.

To think further

If you realize that you are at a point where you are getting bogged down, where you want everything and none of it is working, then you can pause. Positioning is a strategic, but also an internal process. You don’t just clarify what you offer – you decide how you want to appear.

Make it easy and courageous at the same time: opt for clarity.

And if you want company: that’s exactly what I’m here for.

Let’s make your business a clear expression of your power.
