Vernissage: Women in Senegal – The burden and the grace

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, the EWA Women’s Center in Berlin will open its doors for a special exhibition. Under the title “Women in Senegal – The Burden and the Grace”, Cristina Monica Zelenac presents photographs that visualize the lives of women in urban and rural regions of Senegal.

Images full of strength and stories

The photographs show women who carry a lot – on their heads, their backs and in their hearts. They are the bearers of families, traditions and communities. Despite difficult conditions and patriarchal structures, they embody dignity, color, strength and an attitude that impresses.

The photographer

Cristina Monica Zelenac has been involved in development cooperation with the Senegalhilfe-Verein e.V. for many years. On her travels, she documents encounters, everyday moments and the impressive strength of local women – always with the eye of a passionate amateur photographer.
