FOREVER HERE – A moving drama about courage and resistance
From March 13, 2025, FOREVER HERE, an impressive drama based on a true story, will be released in German cinemas. The film tells the moving story of Eunice Paiva, who loses her husband during the Brazilian military dictatorship in the 1970s. When Rubens Paiva, a committed political activist, suddenly disappears, Eunice is left behind with her five children. But instead of retreating into fear and grief, she begins to search for answers and fights back against an oppressive system.
Without ever knowing the fate of her husband, Eunice evolves from a woman who had previously stayed out of political issues into one of Brazil’s most important human rights lawyers. She not only fights for the truth about her husband’s disappearance, but also for justice for countless other victims of the dictatorship.
Director Walter Salles(Central Station, The Journey of Young Che) directs FOREVER HERE with great sensitivity and an impressive ensemble. Fernanda Torres shines in the lead role, while her mother, the legendary Fernanda Montenegro, embodies Eunice in the later stages of her life. The two outstanding actresses lend the story a special emotional depth.
The film celebrated its premiere at the Venice Film Festival and was greeted with minutes of applause from the audience. Critics praised the impressive staging and the authentic portrayal of a fight for truth and justice. The film has already become a hit in Brazil and has also been shown internationally at film festivals in Toronto, New York and San Sebastián.
With a mixture of harrowing reality and moving humanity, FOREVER HERE is a film that touches deeply and has a long-lasting effect.
