WhatsApp can speak for us – ChatGPT can’t? Why AI tools are not a threat to authenticity, but an opportunity for more clarity, creativity and awareness in everyday digital life.
“Be right there” – perfectly okay. Formulated with AI > suddenly reprehensible?
Artificial intelligence has long been part of everyday life – just not visible
We all use artificial intelligence. For years. Without much drama. When WhatsApp suggests automatic responses, nobody minds. When Google completes our search query – no problem. Autocorrect? Standard. Siri? Practical. LinkedIn wishes us a happy birthday – with pre-formulated messages. All perfectly normal. But don’t ask for help with texting or use ChatGPT to sort your thoughts or find the right tone. Then the mood changes. Then it’s suddenly:
“That’s no longer authentic.”
“You don’t even write yourself anymore.”
“That’s AI, it doesn’t count.”
Why is that? Perhaps because AI is now becoming more visible. Perhaps because we are surprised at how far it has already come. Perhaps because it scares us – and spurs us on at the same time. Because what if AI can suddenly do things that we thought were “only human”?
Not if, but how: Deliberate use of AI makes the difference
Time for a sober truth: AI is not the problem. Unthinking use is. Or our own insecurity. I personally use AI tools regularly. For brainstorming, for clarity, for proofreading. And I discard what doesn’t suit me. I reformulate, add to, think further. With heart and brain. Because that’s what it’s all about: not whether you use tools, but how consciously you use them.
Several recent studies show that artificial intelligence (AI) can significantly support everyday working life and improve work results. Here is an overview of the key findings:
- Performance improvement through AI support:
A field study by Procter & Gamble and Harvard Business School (2025) shows: Individuals with AI support achieved similarly high solution qualities as experienced teams of two and teams with AI performed above average, especially in the top 10% range. - Efficiency gains:
AI-supported groups worked 12 to 16% faster on average, with a higher level of detail and quality of results. - Increased productivity across the board:
AI not only increases individual performance, but also has the potential to improve the efficiency of entire industries by saving time that can be used for additional tasks. - Motivation & job satisfaction:
Employees who worked with AI reported more positive emotions such as enthusiasm and a stronger sense of self-efficacy. - Reducing inequalities:
AI helps to reduce performance gaps as it makes knowledge and solution strategies more widely accessible, especially for less experienced employees.
Most frequent fields of application: Text creation (43%), translations (38%), followed by research, emails, presentations and customer communication. According to surveys, almost half of all companies already use generative AI such as ChatGPT, DeepL or Copilot – and the trend is rising.
AI is no substitute for personality – but it can be a strong sparring partner.
Used correctly, it does not make work more impersonal, but often more confident, clearer and more efficient. It helps to sharpen your own style instead of losing it. Those who embrace it discover new ways of thinking; those who refuse to do so run the risk of being overtaken. After all, progress is not a betrayal of your own style, but the courage to use new tools wisely. I say: use what helps you. Think ahead. Stay true to yourself and don’t let yourself be held back. Especially not by double standards.
